The Energy Regulations Board must not entertain the proposed tariff hike by ZESCO as it has potential to cripple the country’s economy, UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has advised.

Hichilema is concerned that sectors such as mining and agriculture are already facing difficulties as a result of increased tariffs which have in the past been hiked without the cost of service study.

In an interview with Hot FM News, Hichilema expressed worry that approving the application by ZESCO will lead to more job losses in the country.

He said high electricity tariffs have led to most sectors of the economy underperforming.
