Central African Republic: the former Rebel Herm Sayo chief extradited from Cameroon to Bangui
Armel Mingatoloum Sayo, former Central African Minister and leader of the armed group Armed Coalition for the Salvation of the People and Recovery (CMSRP), was extradited Monday May 5 to the Central African Republic after being detained for several months in Cameroon, police sources said.
Arrested last January in Yaoundé, the Cameroonian capital, Sayo was given to the Central African authorities after diplomatic approaches between the two countries. His extradition marks a turning point in judicial cooperation between Bangui and Yaoundé.
Upon his arrival in the Central African capital, the former rebel head was placed in detention and presented to the prosecution for legal proceedings. He is accused of having orchestrated armed attacks against government forces in the northwest of the country.
The CMSRP, armed movement led by Armel Sayo, is considered one of the most active groups in this unstable region of the Central African Republic.
