HIS WORSHIP the Mayor of Kabwe, Councillor Prince Chileshe has congratulated the Chipata City Council for achieving the City Status in record time.

Speaking during the PF Interactive Forum in KABWE today, Councillor Chileshe stated that Kabwe Town with its rich and outstanding history and now hosting up to 5 banking Institutions, a well defined Central Business District (CBD), Insurance Firms including Building Society of Zambia and a population of over 208,000 residents as at the 2010 Census has met the bench mark set for the attainment of a City Status.

“We have already petitioned His Excellency, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu following the bench marks that have been set out under the Local Government Act and as re-echod by the Republican President during the conferring of the City status on Chipata on Chipata. We have met these bench marks,” said the Kabwe Mayor.

“As at the 2010 Census, Kabwe Town had a population of over 208,000 people. We have a well defined CBD, 5 banking Institutions, Insurance Firms including Building Society, Two shopping Malls under construction and 2 Universities with several Colleges,” stated Mayor Chileshe.

The Kabwe Mayor further stated that in addition to its Two referral Hospitals, 5 Police Stations and Several Secondary Schools, Kabwe enjoys the construction of Two Shopping Malls to officially be opened before August 2017 with another Two to be constructed within the next 24 months.

“Without taking anything away from Chipata, I think Kabwe is more than ready for the City status. We also congratulate the Chongwe Municipal Council for their elevation. We have met all the bench marks and have petitioned the President on that basis,” said Mr. Chileshe.

The Town of Kabwe is also host to about 5 Prisons and several training Camps for the Defence and Security Forces.
