Health: Burkina Faso strengthens its system with the announcement of the construction of 55 medical centers

Burkina Faso is taking an important new step in improving its health system. The Presidential Health Initiative Project (IPS), an ambitious program aimed at strengthening health infrastructure across the country, was officially launched this Friday in Bérégadougou.

This vast program provides for the construction of 55 municipal medical centers and 5 resuscitation blocks in hospitals. The objective is to improve access to basic health care, especially in rural areas, in order to meet the growing needs of the Burkinabè population.

Drissa Traoré, the IPS coordinator, described this “strategic” project for the development of the country. In addition to strengthening existing health infrastructure, the program will introduce new services such as hemodialysis, cardiology, and breast cancer screening.

The challenges and progress of the Burkinabè health system

The Minister of Health, Robert Kargougou, spoke of the major challenges that the health system of Burkina Faso faces, in particular the reduction of mortality and the improvement of access to care for all. However, he praised the advances carried out thanks to the introduction of mobile clinics in 2024, which made it possible to raise awareness and make screenings with thousands of women.

A health system in full modernization

This project is part of a continuous approach to modernize the Burkinabè health system. Under the direction of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the military regime has already implemented several reforms to improve access to care and reduce costs for patients. This initiative testifies to the political desire to strengthen health infrastructure and improve the living conditions of the Burkinabè populations.
