CAN 2023: South Africa’s pre-list with a big surprise

South Africa’s national coach, Hugo Broos, has communicated his first list of players selected for the final phase of CAN 2023. The tournament will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Ivory Coast.

The 24 countries qualified for the final phase of CAN 2023 have submitted their pre-list of selected players to CAF. While some have decided to keep the contents of their list private, others have made it public. This is the case of South Africa, with coach Hugo Broos who called on 55 Bafana Bafana.

In this expanded group, we notably find Al Ahly winger Percy Tau, who is one of the headliners of the South African selection. We will also note the surprise absence of Pyramids striker Fakhri Lakai. As a reminder, South Africa is part of Group E, which includes Tunisia, Mali and Namibia.
