Yesterday, Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya and I took time to visit Bupe and Mapalo, the former conjoined twins who were surgically separated at the University Teaching Hospital last year.
This was a record – breaking medical operation to have been carried out by Zambian doctors in which government invested.
Government has been supporting the twins from the time they were born as conjoined twins. After the surgical operation, government and other well wishers have been helping the kids and their parents.
As the Luapula Provincial administration, we offered the father to the twins a job which he declined to take opting for farming. We did this to afford the kids a comfortable life.
I’m happy to report that Bupe and Mapalo are doing fine and currently under the care of Kawambwa hospital volunteer mothers. We donated some cash to help the two wonderful mothers to continue taking care of the babies.
I wish to thank Pambashe Member of Parliament and Minister for Housing and Infrastructure Development Hon. Ronald Chitotela who has been frequently providing for the babies, the medical team in Kawambwa under Dr. Arthur Mataka and the people of Kawambwa and Pambashe Constituencies for their support.
