Bourkhane Wade: from wrestler with a short-lived career to chair of president of managers August 20, 2026

Focus on Bourkhane Wade, former wrestler turned manager, manager of several champions and president of the National Gathering of Wrestling Managers of Senegal.

A Pikine dignitary, Bourkhane Wade had a short-lived career as a wrestler before devoting himself to coaching and career management. After leaving the Senegalese army in 1977, he found the former wrestler Mansour Diop de Pikine, little brother of Pape Diop Boston.

“After that, I found Mansour Diop, of whom I had become one of the supervisors. I accompanied him in the “mbapatt”, before following him into the wrestling arena,” he says. Subsequently, “Father Bour”, as he is called, himself decides to try his luck in strike wrestling, thus becoming an active wrestler.

He belongs to the generation of the late Sadio Camara of the Fass stable. But his stint as a wrestler was short-lived. “I fought three fights, but my parents were not in favor of this wrestling career. This forced me to definitively unravel my “nguimb”,” he explains.

After this experience, Bourkhane Wade joined the Pikine stable, alongside his elder Pape Diop Boston. He will gradually establish himself as a man of confidence and a sought-after supervisor. Over the years, he has accompanied several champions, including Balla Bèye 1, Mbacké Bâ, De Gaulle, Baboye, Ndiaga Diop, Thieck, Boy Sèye and Tonnerre.

For De Gaulle, it was their mutual friend Mansour Diop who put them in touch. With this experience, Bourkhane Wade then took on the role of wrestling manager. For several years, he defended the interests of wrestlers like Boy Niang 2, Petit Niang, Coly Faye 2, among others. Renowned for his rigor and availability, he pays particular attention to contracts.

When signing each clash of his foes, he takes the time to examine the different clauses, to propose, if necessary, amendments before affixing his signature.

School of life

His outspokenness and strong character gradually earned him the respect of the community. Those who seek his advice particularly appreciate his experience and his knowledge of the workings of the wrestling arena. This recognition will lead him to head the National Gathering of Wrestling Managers of Senegal.

On Sunday September 4, 2022, during the General Assembly held at the National Arena of Pikine, Bourkhane Wade was elected president with 33 votes, ahead of Mbaye Diagne (31 votes) and Abdou Bakhoum (2 votes). He succeeds Bassirou Babou, who had led the association for many years.

Since then, “Père Bour” has continued his commitment to defending the interests of managers and wrestlers. His institutional career has also been strengthened since he is among the members of the Steering Committee of the Senegalese Wrestling Federation at the end of the 2025 electoral process.

However, his journey has recently undergone a turning point. In March 2026, after several years of companionship, Boy Niang 2 separated from Bourkhane Wade, who managed his career. This rupture occurred in a context of tensions around the management of the fight against Reug Reug, finally fought on June 7, 2026.

Bourkhane Wade confirmed the end of this collaboration, while declaring that he had no regrets about his work with the Pikine wrestler. Despite this separation, the former wrestler turned manager remains deeply committed to wrestling. For him, the arena constitutes a true school of life, capable of training leading men and personalities.

He cites in particular the example of Aziz Ndiaye, an accomplished businessman who took his first steps in “the world of wrestling” before becoming one of its most illustrious patrons. From his three fights as a wrestler to his current responsibilities in this “local sport”, Bourkhane Wade will have ultimately experienced several lives in the arena. A short sporting career, but a particularly rich career in coaching, management and defending the interests of those involved in wrestling.
