Maritime trade: Senegal wants to strengthen its position on major world routes
Senegal intends to consolidate its maritime vocation and strengthen its integration into major world trade routes. It is in this perspective that the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, received, Thursday October 8, 2026, the president of the MSC group (Mediterranean Shipping Company), Diego Aponte, world leader in container maritime transport.
At the heart of this meeting are the strengthening of port and logistics infrastructures, the development of Senegal’s maritime potential as well as its positioning in international trade.
With its expertise and global network, the MSC group has expressed its desire to strengthen its presence in Senegal and provide the country with solutions adapted to its needs. Diego Aponte also reaffirmed the group’s availability to support the implementation of the Senegal 2050 National Transformation Agenda.
This meeting takes place in a context where Senegal is seeking to develop a more competitive maritime economy. For the authorities, the sector constitutes a lever of economic sovereignty, investment attractiveness and job creation.
Through this rapprochement with a major player in global maritime transport, Senegal intends to consolidate its place in international logistics chains and better take advantage of its strategic geographical position on the Atlantic coast.
