Gamou 2026: courtesy visit of the President of the National Assembly to Ndiéguène and Ndiassane

As Gamou approaches, scheduled for Tuesday August 25, 2026, the President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, made courtesy visits to two important religious families in Senegal this Saturday August 22.

After going to Thiès to the family of Mame El Hadji Ndiéguène, he headed to Ndiassane to meet the Caliph, Cheikh Bou Sidy Makhtar Kounta.

In Thiès, the President of the National Assembly was received by dignitaries from the family of Mame El Hadji Ndiéguène. This visit, part of the preparations for Gamou, was an opportunity for warm exchanges with representatives of the religious family.

In his speech, Ousmane Sonko reaffirmed his deep consideration and respect for the religious families of Senegal. He also insisted on their essential role in preserving peace, harmony and social cohesion.

The dignitaries of Mame El Hadji Ndiéguène’s family welcomed the approach of the President of the National Assembly as well as his trip. They, in turn, expressed prayers for him and for the peace, stability and prosperity of Senegal.

In Ndiassane, a visit to the Caliph Cheikh Bou Sidy Makhtar Kounta

After Thiès, Ousmane Sonko went to Ndiassane, where he was received by the Caliph, Cheikh Bou Sidy Makhtar Kounta. A few days before the celebration of Gamou, the President of the National Assembly presented his respectful greetings and renewed his consideration for the country’s religious families.

During the interview, he particularly praised the contribution of religious authorities to the preservation of peace, harmony and social cohesion.

Responding to the President of the National Assembly, the Caliph’s spokesperson, Serigne Khalifa Kounta, expressed his thanks for this visit. He expressed prayers for peace, harmony and stability in Senegal.

Through these two trips, Ousmane Sonko thus reaffirmed the importance given to dialogue with religious families, in the run-up to the major religious celebrations which punctuate the spiritual and social life of Senegal. Five titles proposed
