Zambia recorded its first death linked to MPOX and 31 confirmed cases
Zambia announced its first death on MPOX on Thursday, while the total number of laboratory confirmed cases now reaches 31 in this country in southern Africa.
The Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, said that the victim was an eight -month -old infant who died in a capital health establishment, Lusaka. “An in -depth evaluation was carried out to determine the cause of death, concluding that the child, suffering from MPOX, had developed complex pneumonia”he said during a press briefing.
According to Muchima, seven new MPOX cases were recorded in the last week: three in the province of Copperbelt, two in the north of the country and two in Lusaka, bringing the total of infections to 31.
As a reminder, Zambia had detected its first MPOX case last October.
