Taylor Swift becomes the most awarded artist at the MTV Video Music Awards
Taylor Swift became the most awarded artist at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, during a ceremony where the superstar paid tribute to Dolly Parton.
Aged 36, the singer was tied with Beyoncé with 30 statuettes. But the “The Fate of Ophelia” singer received three more on Sunday, including the first-ever “Artist Director Honors” for his work in directing and visual storytelling.
Taylor Swift also won “Video of the Year,” which she dedicated to country music legend Dolly Parton, who recently passed away.
“In every song she wrote, her storytelling was so intense,” she said, adding that Dolly Parton “handled her fame with such grace and love and gratitude.”
The star took the opportunity to unveil the video for his new single, “Patient Zero”, in which actors Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson appear.
Taylor Swift, who is having a fast year marked by her sumptuous marriage to Travis Kelce, however lost in several key categories, notably that of Artist of the Year, won by Madonna.
While accepting the “Best Collaboration” award, Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter joked about how the 68-year-old had contacted the latter via private message on social media to convince her to come into the studio.
Nirvana received the honorary “Video Vanguard Award” for their entire body of work, becoming the first group to win this distinction in more than 20 years. The leader of the grunge group, Kurt Cobain, committed suicide in 1994, after having achieved worldwide success with the albums “Nevermind” and “In Utero”.
Thai artist Lisa, a former member of the group Blackpink, won best pop song for “Dream,” a duet with Kentaro Sakaguchi.
Rapper Snoop Dogg hosted the ceremony, which was broadcast on CBS and MTV.
