Navétanes: the Guédiawaye ODCAV denounces a “disproportionate” suspension and notes a date error in the prefectural decree
A few days before the end of the season, the Guédiawaye ODCAV contests the prefect’s decision, while condemning the violence observed around the matches.
The Guédiawaye Departmental Organization for the Coordination of Holiday Activities (ODCAV) reacted strongly to the suspension of Navétanes competitions in the department. In an official press release published on October 21, 2026, the same day the decree was signed, she judges the measure “as excessive as it is incomprehensible” and points out an anomaly in the prefectural text.
A suspension “until further notice”
Prefectural decree No. 0027/D.GW/P of October 21, 2026 suspends competitions in the department until further notice. The ODCAV says it learned of it “with amazement”, and regrets that the decision comes “a few days before the end of the season”.
The organization does not dispute the seriousness of the facts. It “strongly condemns the violence, attacks and destruction of property reported before and after certain meetings”, recalling that the safety of people and the preservation of public order are “non-negotiable demands”.
However, she believes that this fight “cannot justify collective and undifferentiated penalization of an entire sporting movement”. According to the ODCAV, an appropriate response should have consisted of identifying and sanctioning the perpetrators, and strengthening security measures around high-risk matches.
Months of compromised efforts
The ODCAV highlights the human and sporting issue: suspending all competitions so close to their end “is tantamount to compromising months of efforts, sacrifices and commitment of thousands of young people, leaders and volunteers”. And added: “The responsibility of some must not become the sanction of all. »
The press release above all notes an inconsistency in the text. If the decree is signed on October 21, 2026, its first article sets the suspension to take effect on January 21, 2026, “i.e. nine months before its signature”.
For the ODCAV, this error “raises serious questions about the rigor surrounding the preparation of this decision” and gives “the feeling of regrettable haste”. The organization draws a parallel from this: “The demand for rigor imposed on sports stakeholders must also prevail in administrative decisions that affect their future. »
Respect for authority, but…
The ODCAV reaffirms its respect for administrative authority, while specifying that this respect “cannot exclude a critical assessment”. She calls for “effective, targeted and concerted” measures rather than a general suspension.
His position is contained in a formula: “zero tolerance against violence”, but refusal of a measure which makes “all bear the consequences of the actions of a few”. And to conclude: “Responsibility requires securing the Navétanes, not stopping them. »
