More than a billion FCFA intercepted by the National Gendarmerie October 12, 2026
The Dakar Research Brigade carried out a major raid by seizing, in Dakar, Thiès, Mbour and Louga, counterfeit banknotes with a total value exceeding one billion FCFA.
According to a note from the National Gendarmerie, this operation was made possible thanks to information exploited on October 5, 2026. This indicated the existence of a network presumed to be in possession of foreign currencies intended to undergo “chemical washing” with a view to their fraudulent injection into the economic circuit. The investigation opened following this information led to the arrest of six suspects and the seizure of numerous objects and illicit products across the targeted localities. This is a case containing 22 packs of 300 100 US dollar notes, or 376,200,000 FCFA, and 10 blocks of 1,000 100 euro notes, or 650,000,000 FCFA. Investigators also discovered six blocks of 200 black notes in denominations of 100 euros, or 1,200 black notes of 100 euros, with a equivalent value of 78,714,840 FCFA. Furthermore, a Taurus brand automatic pistol, caliber 9 mm, 20 blank cartridges of 9 mm and 15 cartridges of 12 mm were found in one of the places searched. Investigators also got their hands on two counterfeiters’ pills, a bulletproof vest, a dagger and bottles believed to contain mercury, according to the source.
