Ken Bugul Book Prize 2026: Seven works in the running for the final

36 days before the opening of the 5th edition of the Dakar Women’s Book Fair, the 2026 Ken Bugul Book Prize now knows its finalists. Of the fourteen works submitted for appreciation by the jury, seven were selected for the final stage of the literary competition. This selection highlights varied literary universes and female voices with unique perspectives on the world.

The seven finalists are “La Soxna” by Mame Anta Mbäcké, published by Éditions Fil d’Ariane, “La danseuse de Saïgon” by Nataly Ong, by Éditions 5 Sens, and “Torments des fleurs” by Ndeye Coumba Bâ, published by Éditions Terre d’accueil.

The selection also includes “Yaay!” » by Célia Sanchez, published by L’Harmattan Sénégal, “Me, mistress? » by Djeney Siby G., published by Éditions Trait d’union, as well as “Respite at will” by Khadija Oumar, published by L’Harmattan. The seventh finalist work is “The little house with the blue door” by Falia, published by Éditions Le Tamarinier.

Through these seven titles, the Ken Bugul Book Prize intends to highlight the diversity of female literary creation. Seven works, seven universes and as many voices called to decide at the end of this selection.

The name of the winner will be known on October 22, 2026, during the opening ceremony of the 5th edition of the Dakar Women’s Book Fair, scheduled at Place de la Nation. One of the seven finalist works will then receive the 2026 Ken Bugul Book Prize.

The organizers sent their congratulations to the seven finalists, while welcoming the participation of the other authors involved in this edition.
