DRC-Rwanda conflict: towards the signing of a peace treaty

A peace treaty between the DRC and Rwanda is being developed in Washington.

A peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda is being finalized under the supervision of the United States. Massad Boulos, main advisor to Donald Trump for Africa, made this statement during an interview with Doha.

This agreement, the signature of which could take place at the White House, will be accompanied by bilateral mining agreements considering Western investments of several billion dollars in the mining fields and infrastructure, including for the treatment of minerals in Rwanda. Some American companies have already expressed their interest.

Before any signature, several security conditions must be met: the disengagement of the Rwandan forces of the DRC, the cessation of support for the M23 by Kigali, and the consideration by Kinshasa of security concerns of Rwanda linked to armed groups such as FDLR.

A supervision committee, including the United States, Qatar, France and Togo, was formed to ensure the evolution of talks. An appointment is organized in Washington in the middle of May between the foreign ministers of Congo and Rwanda to approve the final version of the text.
