Central African Republic: the UN Security Council condemns the deadly attack against the peacekeepers
The United Nations Security Council denounced, this Sunday, the attack perpetrated against the peacekeepers in the Central African Republic, who cost the life of a Kenyan peace soldier.
According to the integrated multidimensional mission of the United Nations for stabilization in the Central African Republic, the incident occurred last Friday during a long-range patrol in the village of Tabane, located in the prefecture of Haut-Mbomou. Peace soldiers were targeted by an “unidentified armed group”.
In a statement, the Security Council expressed its deep condolences and its support for the family of the deceased, as well as in Kenya and the United Nations.
He recalled that attacks on peace soldiers can be described as war crimes and insisted on respect for the obligations imposed by international humanitarian law on all parties involved.
For his part, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, firmly condemned this aggression, calling on the Central African authorities to “redouble their efforts to identify and legalize the officials of this tragic act”.
