CAN Women 2024 (Q): in search of a comeback, Benin eliminated by the DRC
Beaten 2-1 in Kinshasa, Benin lost to the DRC (1-2) this Tuesday in Cotonou, as part of the return leg of the first qualifying round of the 2024 Women’s CAN. A double defeat synonymous with elimination of the Amazons from the race to the final phase of the competition.
Like Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Niger, Benin will not be in Morocco in 2024, host of the 2024 women’s CAN. The Amazons are out of the final phase of the competition after their double defeat against the DRC in the first round.
Already beaten by the Leopards in Kinshasa (2-1), the Beninese suffered another defeat, this time in Cotonou, during the return leg. In front of their audience at the General Mathieu Kérékou stadium, the protégés of coach Symphorien Tehou lost with a score of 2-1.
Despite having entered the game well with the early opening of the score, signed Yolande Gnanmi (5th), a goal which virtually qualifies the Benin team, the Amazons will be knocked down after half an hour of play. Merveille Kanjinga, author of an express double (32nd and 34th) put an end to the dreams of the Beninese. To the delight of the Congolese who will find Burkina Faso in the second round.
