LOUGA – The local administrative authorities of Louga and the members of the organizing committee are hard at work preparing the celebration of the Magal of Mbacké Kadior, a religious city located in the department of Kébémer. Meeting as a regional development committee (RDC) on Thursday October 8, the various stakeholders reviewed the main measures to be implemented to guarantee the smooth running of the event scheduled for November 8. Chairing the meeting, the governor of Louga, Ndèye Ngenar Mbodj, announced several measures relating in particular to the strengthening of the security system, the improvement of public lighting and infrastructure. “We intend to strengthen the security system by mobilizing the defense and security forces, in particular the gendarmerie, the firefighters, among others,” she declared. Concerning public lighting, the authorities have retained the maintenance and extension of the network over a 5 km line, as well as the elimination of load shedding in the locality during and after Magal. On the health front, the regional executive has also made commitments to strengthen the care of pilgrims. “The health system usually put in place will be strengthened in view of the presence of certain epidemics, in particular Rift Valley fever and diphtheria,” said Ndèye Ngenar Mbodj. In this perspective, the organizing committee called for the provision of an ambulance and a liaison vehicle in order to facilitate the care of pilgrims. Regarding the supply of drinking water, the governor announced the prospect of carrying out a third borehole. To this end, the Office of Rural Drilling (Ofor) will be contacted for the construction of this infrastructure, intended to meet the water needs of the populations. During the discussions, the establishment of a gendarmerie brigade in Mbacké Kadior was also raised. For Serigne Cheikh Thioro Mbacké, president of the Magal organizing committee, the establishment of such a unit has become urgent given the security problems facing the area. In response to this grievance, regional governor Ndèye Ngenar Mbodj assured that “provisions are being made to examine this grievance and to find solutions”.
Finally, Serigne Cheikh Thioro Mbacké recalled the spiritual dimension of this religious event, which commemorates the birth of Serigne Mouhamadou Bara Mbacké, son of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, founder of Mouridism.
