Death of Cheikh Hamidou Kane: Macky Sall salutes the memory of a “great intellectual figure”
Former President of the Republic, Macky Sall, paid tribute to the writer Cheikh Hamidou Kane, who died at the age of 97. In an emotional message on X, he salutes the memory of a “talented writer” and a “great intellectual figure of Senegal and Africa”.
Macky Sall underlines the importance of the work of the author of L’Aventure ambiguë, considered a major legacy of Senegalese and African literature. According to him, this work will continue to fuel reflection on essential questions linked to identity, culture and our relationship to the world.
An intellectual in the service of the State
The former head of state also highlights Cheikh Hamidou Kane’s career in the service of the State, as well as his intellectual commitment. He believes that these two dimensions of his journey will remain permanently inscribed in the collective memory.
“His journey in the service of the State and his intellectual commitment will also remain engraved in our collective memory,” writes Macky Sall.
In this painful circumstance, the former president sends his condolences to the family of the deceased as well as to the entire world of letters. Macky Sall finally formulates a prayer for the rest of the soul of Sheikh Hamidou Kane, asking Allah, “in His infinite mercy”, to grant him His grace and His Paradise.
