TER Diamniadio – AIBD: an investment of more than 300 billion CFA francs
In total, an investment of more than 300 billion CFA francs was mobilized for the section of the Regional Express Train (TER) linking Diamniadio to Blaise Diagne International Airport. The announcement was made on Monday, during the opening of this new service, by the Minister of Land and Air Transport, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye.
The Regional Express Train (TER) is taking a new step with the entry into service this Monday, September 28, 2026 of its extension to Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD).
“As of today, Monday September 28, 2026, the section connecting Diamniadio to Blaise Diagne International Airport is open to the general public. This second phase of the TER represents 19 km of electrified double track railway line between Diamniadio and the AIBD, bringing the total length of the TER to 55 km with the installation of modern and latest generation signaling equipment,” indicated the Minister of Land and Air Transport, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye.
It also includes the construction of the new AIBD terminal and the future emblematic Sébikotane station.
7 new dual-mode trains acquired
“This phase required the acquisition of 7 new dual-mode trains, that is to say capable of operating on both electricity and diesel. However, our TER fleet has a total of 22 trainsets. This is why its realization required an investment of more than 300 billion CFA francs,” he added.
On this, the Minister in charge of Land Transport stressed that their mission is to build 2000 kilometers of standard gauge railways by 2050.
“The financing of technical and environmental studies has been completed. With the participation of the State of Senegal, but also with the participation of our partners, such as the French Development Agency and the European Union, for a total amount of 6.5 billion CFA francs,” he said.
It should be noted that with this new infrastructure, the TER now provides a direct link between Dakar and the AIBD, marking a significant step forward in improving mobility and service to the airport platform.
This extension contributes to strengthening the accessibility of the airport, by offering travelers, airport staff and users a new transport alternative, while consolidating the interconnection between transport networks.
