SONACOS SA wants to collect more than 250,000 tonnes in the South September 12, 2026
SONACOS SA wants to take a new step in the collection of peanut seeds. After the approximately 220,000 tonnes mobilized in the South during the previous campaign, the company is now targeting more than 250,000 tonnes, with the ambition to process more and create more jobs.
ZIGUINCHOR- Visiting the SONACOS factory in Ziguinchor this Friday, September 11, the general director, Cheikh Ahmeth Tidiane Guèye, displayed his ambitions for the next campaign. A rise in power which is part of the company’s desire to strengthen its industrial foothold in the South of the country, where the peanut basin is gradually gaining ground. “The prospects for the next peanut campaign are encouraging. After collecting nearly 220,000 tonnes last year, we aim to exceed this performance and reach more than 250,000 tonnes this year. Our objective is above all to transform this production locally, to diversify our activities and to make collection a real lever for job creation on our various sites,” explained Cheikh Ahmeth Tidiane Guèye.
The South is at the heart of the strategy. To achieve this new target, SONACOS is banking on the development of peanut production towards the South of the country. The gradual movement of the peanut basin towards Fouladou offers the company a new industrial frontier that it intends to fully exploit. “We have noticed for several years that the basin is tilting towards the Fouladou. This development represents a real opportunity for SONACOS. We have therefore anticipated by preparing significant investments in the South, in accordance with the directions of the Head of State, who asked us to strengthen our industrial presence in this part of the country,” he indicated.
This strategy must come to fruition in Medina Yoro Foulah, where SONACOS plans to establish a new industrial unit. An investment of 18 billion CFA francs on more than 15 hectares, intended to cover the entire chain, from reception of seeds to marketing. “The Medina Yoro Foulah project is already underway. This will be SONACOS’s largest production unit, with a total investment of 18 billion CFA francs. It will integrate the entire value chain, from reception of seeds to crushing, refining, detoxification and until marketing,” specified the general director, Cheikh Ahmeth Tidiane Guèye. Through this objective of more than 250,000 tonnes, SONACOS therefore wants to change scale. Collect, transform and create more value in Senegal. This is now the equation that the company intends to impose on the next peanut campaign.
