SAR: DG Mamadou Abib Diop defends his record
The Director General of the African Refining Company (SAR), Mamadou Abib Diop, spoke on Thursday about the concerns recently raised within the company by the college of staff delegates.
Guest of the show “Yoon Wi” on the RFM, Mamadou Abib Diop provided details on the financial situation of the SAR. The Director General particularly highlighted the performances recorded under his leadership. “I’m not going to give in to blackmail. I made a record profit last year. Today, in just six months, we have already exceeded this figure,” he said.
Mamadou Abib Diop also mentioned the payment of dividends for the current financial year. In this regard, he reported the testimony of a shareholder who told him that he had never received any before. The question of recruitment also occupied an important place in the interview. The CEO of the SAR affirms that 80% of recruitments carried out this year correspond to internal promotions, a level which he presents as unprecedented in the recent history of the company. For Mamadou Abib Diop, recruitment management is the responsibility of General Management and the Board of Directors. He therefore believes that certain staff representatives would be overstepping their role by intervening on this issue.
This situation, according to him, fuels questions about the motivations of the protest. “I put an end to some old practices. I do not know what is behind their actions, but I will remain firm on my principles and on the need to preserve the interests of the SAR,” he said. During the program, the General Director also presented several projects and achievements to illustrate the dynamics underway within the company. He notably cited the construction of a football field for staff, the creation of the SAR Academy, the construction of a new administrative building, delivery of which is announced for January 2027, as well as the renovation of the Club House.
For Mamadou Abib Diop, these various initiatives reflect a desire for transformation and modernization of society. “The SAR is performing very well, and that is the main thing,” he concluded.
