Road safety: “Explicode” adapts the Highway Code to the local context

After Ziguinchor, road law expert Amadou Guèye presented Thursday, August 3, in Kaolack his work “Explicode”, a multimedia guide dedicated to the popularization of the Senegalese Highway Code.

Composed of four volumes, the work is based on illustrations adapted to the local context and audio and video content accessible by QR codes. “The objective is to make our contribution to the implementation of a training tool that is specific to us,” explains Amadou Guèye.

According to him, Senegal still uses a Highway Code inspired by the French model, with illustrations poorly adapted to local realities. “We want to explain the rules through community references and illustrations, with explanations in national languages,” he emphasizes. During his stay in Kaolack, the author was received by the Caliph General of Medina Baye, Cheikh Mouhamadou Mahi Ibrahima Niass, as well as by the governor of the region, Guedj Diouf.

Beyond traffic signs and rules, “Explicode” addresses the entire legal environment of the driver, in particular questions of liability and the provisions of the Environmental Code relating to the transport of dangerous materials. The book is also aimed at the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), called upon to master the procedures linked to checks and arrests.

Finally, the author insists on the accessibility of his tool, which integrates national languages ​​to reach populations who do not master French. “Every year, more than 700 people die on our roads. Changing things will necessarily involve education and awareness,” he believes.
