Medina Baye: Sheikh Mouhamadoul Macky Niass buried in the Grand Mosque!

A huge crowd of faithful accompanied, this Friday, September 4, 2026, Cheikh Mouhamadoul Macky Ibrahima Niass to his final resting place.

Died in Morocco at the age of 83, while staying there for medical treatment, the religious was buried within the grounds of the Great Mosque of Medina Baye, in the presence of numerous religious, administrative and diplomatic figures.

Spokesperson for the religious family, Cheikh Tidiane Alioune Cissé paid a vibrant tribute to the deceased. Other religious dignitaries, including Cheikh Mahi Aliou Cissé, also paid tribute to his memory. In their testimonies, they notably highlighted his piety, his erudition, his wisdom and his deep attachment to the teachings of Tidjaniya.

The ceremony was attended by many authorities. The governor of Kaolack and the prefect notably made the trip to pay a final tribute to the deceased.

Coming from a family deeply rooted in the Sufi tradition, Cheikh Mouhamadoul Macky Ibrahima Niass was presented as one of the great disciples and sons of Cheikh Ibrahima Niass, known as Baye Niass. His disappearance constitutes a heavy loss for the Tidjan community and for the many faithful who benefited from his teaching and advice.

Through this strong mobilization, Medina Baye paid tribute worthy of the spiritual dimension of one who was, for many years, a devoted servant of the faith and the Tidjan way.
