Toubab Dialaw: 47.76 million CFA francs in counterfeit notes seized
On August 29, 2026, the Dakar Research Brigade arrested four individuals of Senegalese nationality, suspected of being involved in a case of counterfeiting bank notes.
According to a press release from the National Gendarmerie, the suspects were placed in police custody for criminal conspiracy, attempted fraud and possession of materials intended for the counterfeiting of legal tender bank notes.
The affair began following information reporting the actions of a group of individuals who held 100 US dollar bills and were looking for a technician capable of carrying out their so-called “washing”, for a significant fee.
Following this information, investigators set up a surveillance and tracking system. The investigations led them to Diamniadio, then to Toubab Dialaw, where the suspects had joined an apartment which was to serve as a laboratory for “washing black notes”.
A coordinated intervention carried out on the scene allowed the gendarmes to arrest the four individuals and seize black notes in denominations of 100 dollars, for a total equivalent value estimated at 47.76 million CFA francs. Two Ford vehicles, which were allegedly used to transport the suspects, were also seized. The Dakar Research Brigade is continuing investigations to shed light on this matter.
