Africa zone elimination from the “FIBA 2027” World Cup: the Senegal-Egypt clash, today, from 6:30 p.m. at Dakar Arena

For its first exit from the fourth window of the Africa Zone qualifiers for the “FIBA 2027” World Cup (from August 27 to 30, 2026), the Senegal men’s national basketball team faces Egypt, today, at Dakar Arena, from 6:30 p.m. Currently at the top of the standings with a 5-1 record, the Lions are aiming for their qualification for the World Cup.

Some teams have the opportunity to increase their chances of qualifying during the fourth window of the Africa Zone qualifiers for the “FIBA 2027” World Cup. The 24 matches take place in Radès, Tunisia, and Dakar, Senegal, from Thursday August 27 to Sunday August 30.

Senegal (5-1), housed in Group F with Ivory Coast (5-1), Mali (5-1), Angola (4-2), Egypt (3-3) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (2-4), makes its first exit from the competition, today, from 6:30 p.m. at Dakar Arena.

The Lions face Egypt in a match that promises to be competitive. Aware that they must make the same journey as during window 3, where they won three victories in as many outings, they will surely have the necessary weapons to face a very tenacious Egyptian team. Beating Angola away was the most obvious sign of Egypt’s progress in the first round.

If the Pharaohs manage to maintain the tenacity and cohesion displayed in Luanda, where they won two of their three matches, they will certainly play spoilsport in this group F. Brancou Badio’s teammates must then work harder to cope with the Egyptian dynamic. In fact, no team has dominated the paint more than Senegal since the start of this campaign.

The selection displays the best averages in the competition with 52 rebounds and 7.8 blocks per game. Senegal, which has won five of its six matches at the Marius Ndiaye stadium, is aiming to qualify for the World Cup. Even though Angola, Egypt and Mali represent formidable opponents, the Lions have all the necessary assets to pass the test that awaits them.

Note that Radès (Tunisia) hosts the first series of Group E matches, while Dakar hosts that of Group F matches. The 18 matches (nine in each city) take place from Thursday August 27 to Sunday August 30. The twelve teams play on the opening and closing days (August 27 and 30, respectively). This is the first time that Dakar Arena is hosting Africa Zone qualifying matches for the “FIBA 2027” World Cup.
