Champions League: Moussa Niakhaté’s Olympique Lyonnais fails against Fenerbahçe

Moussa Niakhaté’s Lyon eliminated from the Champions League. This Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Groupama Stadium, Les Gones lost 2-1 against Fenerbahçe in the return play-off, after having achieved an encouraging draw in the first leg (1-1). The scorers are Vedat Muriqi (24th) and Archie Brown (28th) for Fenerbahçe while Malick Fofana (61st) reduced the gap for Lyon.

This defeat deprives the Rhone club, which counts Senegalese international defender Moussa Niakhaté in its ranks, of a return to the European elite which it has not experienced for six years. Lyon will therefore have to settle for a place in the Europa League for the coming season.
