United States: Modou Ngom sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison
Modou Ngom’s lawyer, Jeffery M. Poth, confirmed this Thursday, October 29, 2026 that his client was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison in the United States, following the road accident which claimed the lives of three people in Ohio on April 11.
“That is correct, the sentence imposed today was for 22.5 years” the lawyer wrote in an email to the Sun in response to a request for confirmation.
On September 25, a Delaware County jury found Modou Ngom guilty of eight counts related to this accident on Interstate 71.
The driver of the heavy goods vehicle hit several vehicles stopped in a work zone, killing three members of the same family, a couple and their one-year-old child.
The charges against him related to three aggravated vehicular homicides and five offenses relating to injuries caused while driving. Under Ohio law, these offenses are punishable by imprisonment, but not the death penalty.
The confirmation of his lawyer thus dismisses the rumors according to which the Senegalese would have been sentenced to death.
Before the sentencing hearing, Jeffery M. Poth had already clarified that his client did not risk the death penalty, while indicating that he could face more than twenty years in prison.
