U19 Croatia Handball World Cup 2023: 10 Burundi players missing

Ten handball players from the Burundian selection who participated in the U19 World Cup of discipline in Croatia passed out in the nature, announced Thursday the police of the host country quoted by AFP.
Their desertion led to the forfeit of their team which lost its match on green carpet against Bahrain. Ten young players from Burundi who participated in the U19 Handball World Cup in Croatia have disappeared into the wild. “These are ten young men, born in 2006, who left yesterday (Wednesday) around 3:30 p.m. the premises of a university residence in Rijeka (west) and who left in an unknown direction.“, said the local police in a press release relayed by AFP.
Like several countries around the world, Burundi is also playing in the U19 Handball World Cup, which takes place from August 2 to 13 in several Croatian cities. The group has already played several matches in the group stage. A competition which was apparently not the first objective of these deserters on Croatian soil who took to their heels to the dismay of their selection.

In its press release, the police launched an operation “ in order to find the missing persons and to establish the facts and circumstances of their disappearance“. Located in East Africa, Burundi is one of the poorest countries in the world and one of the most densely populated on the continent.
