The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has started an official visit to Ethiopia with the aim of consolidating bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has entered Addis Ababa for an official visit focused on strengthening ties between the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia. Warmly welcomed at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, this visit marks a significant step towards enhanced collaboration between the two nations.

At the heart of this diplomatic visit is the objective of strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation in various fields. The United Arab Emirates has emerged as a major trading partner for Ethiopia, with non-oil trade reaching $1.4 billion in 2022.

Imports from Ethiopia to the UAE totaled $628 million, while Emirati exports reached $564.5 million. Re-exports from the United Arab Emirates to Ethiopia also contributed significantly to this dynamic, reaching a value of $553.3 million.

UAE investments in Ethiopia have also played a vital role in strengthening economic ties between the two nations. With an estimated total of $2.9 billion, these investments have affected various key sectors such as pharmaceutical production, the aluminum industry, the agri-food sector, beverages and chemicals. This close collaboration has created opportunities for mutual growth and economic development for both countries.
