Rufisque: Navétanes suspended due to violence

THE Prefect of the Rufisque department, Magatte Diouck, has decided to suspend Navétanes matches in the town of Rufisque.

The measure, motivated by the imperatives of security and preservation of public order, comes after several incidents recorded during certain meetings.

In a press release made public on Sunday September 13, 2026, the administrative authority informed the leaders of the Navétanes movement, the presidents of ASC, players, supporters and all populations of this decision. This will be formalized by a prefectural decree which must be published this Monday.

Clashes between supporters

The prefectural decision follows the repetition of incidents and acts of violence on the sidelines of certain Navétanes meetings. The press release notably mentions clashes between supporters having undermined personal safety and public peace.

These incidents also caused attacks on the integrity of public and private property, posing, according to the authorities, significant risks to the safety of the population. Faced with this situation, the Prefect considers it necessary to suspend the meetings in order to prevent further disturbances to public order.

A resumption of matches not envisaged at this stage

The suspension comes as the repetition of incidents linked to certain meetings raises fears of a worsening of tensions. At this stage, no resumption of Navétanes matches in the town of Rufisque is envisaged by the administrative authority.

The Prefect thus calls on those responsible for the Navétanes movement, ASC leaders, players, supporters and all stakeholders concerned to demonstrate responsibility, restraint and good citizenship. He also invites them to refrain from any initiative likely to disturb public order.

Magatte Diouck also reminds us that sport must remain a space of fraternity, fair play, social cohesion and healthy competition. According to him, it cannot serve as a pretext for violence, clashes, damage or destruction of public and private property.

The administrative authority finally calls on populations, particularly young people, to favor calm, dialogue and respect for the rules, in the interest of collective security and the preservation of public tranquility.
