OJ 2024 (f): Australia overturns Zambia (6-5), after a crazy match

Australia relaunched its women’s football tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games after its victory against Zambia (6-5) on Sunday in Nice. A result which relegates ladies chipolopolos to the edge of elimination.

If the final result is expensive for the ladies chipolopolos, which suffered a second consecutive defeat, Zambia and Australia offered a breathtaking show on Sunday, at the Olympic Games in Paris. From the first minute of play, the tone was set with the opening of Barbra Banda’s score for Zambia. The Australians were quick to react, equalizing rapidly thanks to Alanna Kennedy at the 7á minute.

The match continued on a frantic pace. Racheal Kundananji (21áµ ‰) and again banda (33áµ ‰) dug the gap in favor of Zambia, placing the Matildas under intense pressure. Despite a reduction in the score by Australia, Barbra Banda completed her triple just before the break (45áµ ‰ + 4), allowing his team to lead 4-2 to half time.

The second period began as the first, with Kundananji marking his second goal in 56á ‰ minute, assisted by Banda, who distinguished himself as the key player of the match. But that’s when the match took a dramatic turn. In the space of 32 minutes, the Australians managed to register four goals, overthrowing the situation spectacularly.

A goal against his Ngambo Musole camp (58áµ ‰) launched the Australian rise, followed by achievements by Stéphanie Castley (65áµ ‰, 76áµ ‰) and Michelle Heyman (90áµ ‰), offering Australia an unexpected victory 6-5.

This victory allows Australia to revive in group B, also made up of the United States and Germany. On the other hand, Zambia, with this second defeat in two games, finds itself on the verge of elimination.
