Official: Morocco host country of CAN 2025
The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), meeting this Wednesday in Cairo, designated Morocco as the host country of the 2025 African Cup of Nations. A decision taken unanimously, following the withdrawal of candidacies Algeria, the Nigeria-Benin duo and Zambia.
Expected for days, it is now official. Morocco is the host country of CAN 2025. The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), meeting this Wednesday in Cairo, has in fact designated the Cherifian nation as the organizer of the 35th edition of the most popular of competition on the continent. A decision taken unanimously, following the withdrawals of the other candidates in the running, Algeria, the Nigeria-Benin duo and Zambia.
Thirty-seven years after hosting the 1988 African Cup of Nations, Morocco will once again host a CAN final phase. It must be said that the Maghreb country has become in recent years the host land of major sporting events: CHAN 2018, Futsal CAN in 2020, Women’s CAN in 2022, Women’s Champions League in 2022, CAN U23 in 2023, Cup of the Club World in 2013, 2014 then 2022…
The country has even hosted European Super Cup finals. The Champions Trophy (France) in 2011 and 2017, and the Spanish Super Cup in 2018.
