No US military base in Zambia, says Army Chief

No American military base in Zambia, according to the army chief

Zambian army, Sitali Alibuzwi, firmly denied the existence of an American military base in Zambia. These statements come in response to the recent accusations of the Zimbabwean President, Emerson Mnangagwa, according to which the United States would militize Zambia to strengthen their regional influence.

During a meeting with Pamela Chisanga, Zambia High Commissioner in Botswana, Sitali Alibuzwi said that Zambia’s military cooperation with the United States command for Africa (Africom) has existed for more than 15 years. “Sã” R, we receive military assistance in terms of courses, training and medical support. This does not translate into a base. It is regrettable that some seek to distort the facts and to project a false image, thus creating an unjustified fear in our neighbors ”, he said.

These words follow the accusations of President Zimbabwean Emerson Mnangagwa, who said last month, during his trip to Russia, that the United States used Zambia as a military anchor to isolate Zimbabwe. The Zambian army chief denounced these declarations as being unfounded and harmful to regional stability.
