Nioro du Rip: the new caliph of Maba Diakhou Ba makes Koranic teaching his priority
The new caliph of the Almamy Tafsir Maba Diakhou Bâ family, El Hadji Omar Bâ, wants to make the strengthening of Koranic teaching and the transmission of Islamic knowledge a priority of his mandate, in order to preserve the religious heritage of this family.
According to a press release from its communications unit, this orientation was announced this weekend in Nioro du Rip, during a meeting with its close collaborators and representatives of the various community units. The meeting was also marked by acts of allegiance to the new religious authority.
The Caliph intends to promote the learning of the Koran and Islamic education in Nioro du Rip, as well as in other localities linked to the legacy of Tafsir Maba Diakhou Bâ. A former Koranic teacher and religious educator, he invited the members of his community to invest more in the quest for religious knowledge and in the practice of Islamic values.
Speaking on his behalf, Imam Aliou Bâ insisted on the need to safeguard the spiritual heritage of Tafsir Maba Diakhou Bâ and his brother Mamour Ndary Bâ. “The hearth lit by Tafsir Maba Diakhou Bâ for the triumph of Islam must always be illuminated and the Koranic school must remain its pillar,” he declared.
The question of financing religious education was also addressed. The director of the Tafsir Maba Diakhou Bâ Islamic Institute in Nioro du Rip, Malick Elimane Tafsir Mamour Bâ, deplored the lack of subsidies, which he considers to be an obstacle to the proper functioning of this Franco-Koranic establishment.
On the organizational level, the Caliph entrusted former governor El Hadji Malick Bâ with the coordination of all of the community’s activities. Existing structures and those responsible for them should, for the most part, be maintained for the sake of continuity.
Prayers were finally expressed for the repose of the soul of the former caliph, El Hadji Mamour Ndiogou Bâ, who died on October 1, as well as for peace in Senegal and in the world. Imam Aliou Bâ, for his part, called for the strengthening of relations with the different religious communities.
