The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked U23 coach Salisu Yusuf and U17 counterpart Nduka Ugbade, president Ibrahim Gusau has announced.
Yusuf Salisu and Nduka Ugbade pay dearly for the elimination of their team from African competitions. The two coaches were dismissed after the mixed performances of the U17s and U23s at the last African Cup of Nations. Their sacking was made public by NFF chairman Ibrahim Gusau in an interview with Complete Sports.
“ Their jobs are tied to competition. The coaches have no work to do at the moment as their teams failed to qualify “, did he declare.
Yusuf’s Dream Team failed to qualify for AFCON U-23 and as a result will not participate in the upcoming Olympic football event. Ugbade’s Golden Eaglets are on their side, out in the quarter-finals of the CAN U-17, beaten by Burkina Faso (2-1). An elimination that cost Nigeria, five-time world champion, a place at the next World Cup in the category.
