Louga: Serigne Ahma Mbacké invites young people to invest in agriculture
In a context marked by the phenomenon of illegal emigration, Serigne Ahma Mbacké, grandson of Serigne Bara Mbacké, calls on young people to stay in the country by investing in agriculture.
“We are calling on young people to take more interest in agriculture, because they can find their way there. » This is the message launched by Serigne Ahma Mbacké, grandson of Serigne Bara Mbacké, this Monday, on the occasion of a harvest day organized on his farms located in Coki (Louga department).
According to him, it is entirely possible to succeed in life in Senegal by cultivating the land, rather than braving the dangers of the sea in the hope of reaching Europe. “It was to serve as an example that I got into agriculture,” said Serigne Ahma Mbacké.
Indeed, for more than a decade, he has been involved in the agricultural sector, with the ambition of promoting working the land among young people.
For this agricultural campaign, the producer planted 10 hectares of peanuts and 18 hectares of cowpeas. However, its ambitions come up against a lack of agricultural materials and equipment, which constitutes an obstacle to improving its production.
Speaking on behalf of the disciples of Serigne Ahma Mbacké, Mbaye Diop first thanked the populations of Coki and surrounding localities for their strong mobilization on the occasion of this harvest day. He then pleaded for a strengthening of the means of production.
“Support with tractors and other agricultural equipment would significantly boost production,” he argued, while calling on the authorities to provide more support to local producers.
In a context where the State displays its ambition for food sovereignty, Mbaye Diop believes that it is essential to support local agricultural initiatives to meet this challenge.
