The day after the closing of the G7 in Japan, Brazilian President Lula said he was “upset” not to have met Volodymyr Zelensky, who allegedly refused to meet him.
The Zelensky-Lula meeting did not take place in Hiroshima. Brazilian President Lula da Silva says he waited for his Ukrainian counterpart on the sidelines of the G7, but he did not come. Zelensky quipped that Lula must have been “frustrated” that he couldn’t meet him.

“Mr. Zelensky is a great person. He knows what he’s doing”
Sources within the Brazilian president’s team, quoted on condition of anonymity by the daily Folha de S. Paulo, claim that the Brazilian delegation has proposed three different times this weekend on the sidelines of the G7 in Japan, for a meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Lula. A missed appointment which, according to Volodymyr Zelensky himself, probably left his Brazilian counterpart “disappointed”.
“I was not disappointed”Lula replied Monday at a press conference before leaving Japan. “I was upset, because I would like to meet him and discuss the subject”he continued. “But Mr. Zelensky is a great person. He knows what he’s doing. »
Volodymyr Zelensky has however taken the time to meet several heads of state this weekend: the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, but also his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
