Gabon: “it’s a palace revolution”, the opposition disapproves of the coup d’état
In Gabon, the main opponent, challenger to Ali Bongo in the last presidential election, does not support the military-led coup. The sole candidate of the opposition platform also doubts the sincerity of the putschists.
Opponent Albert Ondo Ossa does not support the coup in Gabon. “I am a Democrat. A Democrat does not support coups. It’s a matter of principle “he told RFI.
Deep down, he even thinks that it is not actually a coup d’état. “It’s not a coup d’état, it’s a palace revolution”he said. “Oligui Nguema is Ali Bongo’s cousin. The Bongos have found a way to circumvent the perpetual imposture. The Bongos do not lose anything, they are back on stage to continue the system through Oligui Nguema”added the opponent.
Albert Ondo Ossa is certain that members of the Bongo family are pulling the strings in what is being presented as a coup. “The interest is to preserve the power of the Bongo”did he declare.
Back to legality…
Albert Ondo Ossa continues to claim victory after the presidential election. As such, he asks the military to return to legality. According to him, the return to legality consists in proclaiming the real results of the election to make him the new president of Gabon. For Albert Ondo Ossa, this solution is simpler than the transitional one taken by the putschists.
