Equatorial Guinea: investigation open against Baltasar Ebang Engona
In Equatorial Guinea, videos of an erotic character featuring Baltasar Ebang Engona, known under the nickname “Bello”, circulate on social networks, causing a strong reaction of the public.
In these videos, “Bello” appeared with several women, some of whom are married, in different places such as hotels, office or other private spaces. The case aroused a keen excitement within society, where calls for severe sanctions against the protagonist and the people involved are multiplying, reports Realequatorialuinea.
In response, the public prosecutor’s office, under the direction of the Attorney General Anatolio Nzang Nguema, quickly opened an investigation to check if “Bello” could carry a sexually transmitted infection. The authorities thus wish to determine if he would have deliberately endangered public health by propagating a possible illness. If this is proven, proceedings for involvement of public health, an offense repressed by the Equato-Guinean legislation, could be engaged, specifies the online media.
Anatolio Nzang Nguema stressed that, although the sexual relations made are not prohibited, the law provides strict sanctions for anyone who would knowingly propagate an infection. “The population is threatened because each woman involved could indirectly exhibit spouses and other people”said the prosecutor.
Currently, the investigations are underway to collect the necessary evidence to determine whether expenses can be retained against “Bello”. In the event of an unfavorable conclusion, sanctions could be applied for non-compliance with public health rules.
