In correspondence addressed to the Congolese Federation of Association Football (Fecofa), FIFA threatens to sanction the DRC for interference by local authorities in the internal affairs of the Federation.
The DRC in the sights of FIFA. The International Football Federation has indeed threatened to suspend the country for interference by local authorities in the management of the Congolese Federation. In a correspondence addressed to Fecofa, the administration of Gianni Infantino made a case of the recent decisions of the Ministry of Sports on the national championship.
The ministerial authority has indeed published a press release to prohibit the use of the Martyrs and Tata Raphaël stadium. But more than this note, it is the ministry’s involvement in the implementation of reforms on the format to be used for this season that is annoying. According to some sources, the Congolese State would be opposed to the idea of organizing the championship by zone, a format which arouses much criticism in the few African countries which continue to adopt it, including Benin.
Actions that are not the responsibility of the supervisory authorities according to FIFA, which qualifies them as interference. Also, she warns and announces that if the situation persists, the sanctions going to the suspension of the Federation will fall. For now, the Standardization Committee maintains its decision of a zonal championship this season. Note that the Congolese championship starts this Wednesday with the matches of the first day.
