Diakène Diola: Two little girls lose their lives by drowning

Two teenage girls lost their lives while swimming in Diakène Diola, a village in the rural commune of Oussouye. Their bodies were recovered by firefighters and taken to the morgue.

OUSSOUYE – Having gone for a swim in a pond in Diakène, located in the district of Loudia Wolof, Maimouna Diouf and Diarry Bassène did not know that they had an appointment with death. The two girls, aged 13 and 15 respectively, lost their lives by drowning on Friday September 4, 2026. According to information collected from members of their families, the victims had gone to swim with their friends, after work in the fields. It was during this swimming session that they were “swallowed” by the water. Their comrades who were there could do nothing to save them. They took the information to the village. The population subsequently alerted the Cap Skirring fire and rescue brigade. Once on the scene, firefighters were able to recover the bodies of the two victims, which were taken to the morgue of the Oussouye health center. Elements of the Oussouye gendarmerie, who also made the trip, were able to make the observation for the purposes of the investigation. In Diakène Diola, a locality in the Oussouye department, the tragic death of these two young girls has plunged the population into great consternation. Within their families, we mourn the disappearance of two children whose future was considered promising.
