Coup in Gabon: calm situation in Libreville (diplomat)
The situation in the Gabonese capital of Libreville is calm, the Russian embassy is not threatened. This was told by the diplomatic mission to TASS.
“Everything is calm for the moment, nothing threatens the security of the embassy”, it is indicated.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Gabonese military announced that it had seized power in the country, dissolved all state institutions and created a Transition and Restoration of Institutions Committee.

The military declaration came a few hours after the electoral commission officially announced the victory of Ali Bongo Ondimba in the presidential election on August 26, with 64.27% of the votes. He was re-elected for a third term.
The president’s current whereabouts are unknown. Authorities have yet to make an official statement.
