Council of Ministers of 09/30/2026: Back to school, youth, cancer… the priorities of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye
During the Council of Ministers at the Palais de la République on September 30, 2026, President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye placed school at the top of his priorities. He also called for guaranteeing the continuity of public services and intensifying the fight against cancer. Here’s everything you need to know about your communication.
School in the center
The Head of State asks the Government to take “all necessary measures to ensure a good start to the school year”, while “preserving social stability”. He underlines “the urgency of accelerating” the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, as well as the eradication of temporary shelters.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye considers it “imperative” to strengthen preventive social dialogue with teaching unions and to enforce commitments on exam compensation and statutory upgrades. He also calls for a concerted reform of curricula, with the rise of digital technology and the regulation of social networks. Finally, he calls for reinforced control of private education and better integration of the Daara.
Young people, actors of public policies
After the installation of the Senegal Youth Consultative Council (CCJS) on September 29, the President demands “the effective participation of young people in decision-making”. He orders the “urgent deployment” of the New National Employment Policy, “already validated”. He will now receive the members of the CCJS during an “annual listening and evaluation meeting”.
Public services and health
President Faye recalls that “the continuity of public services remains an imperative”. He cites access to care, drinking water, electricity, telephony and the security of regulatory stocks of food.
At the time of Pink October, the Head of State believes that the fight against cancer “remains a major priority of our health policy”. He congratulates LISCA and calls for a systematic “Prevention” component, better care for sick children and the rapid commissioning of the Diamniadio National Oncology Center.
Agricultural campaign
As the 2026 winter season “enters its last phase”, it requires sustained preparation of the peanut campaign, with appropriate financing and the execution of the SONACOS Industrial Transformation Plan.
Diplomatic agenda
The President, who returns from Washington, the United Arab Emirates and New York (81st UN General Assembly, September 21 to 25), will travel from October 2 to 4 to Egypt, as current President of ECOWAS, then to Abuja for the installation of the new judges of the Court.
