Rigobert Song, sélectionneur du Cameroun en conférence de presse

Cameroon: Rigobert Song comes out of silence after his ouster

Not reappointed as head of the Indomitable Lions, when his contract expired last Tuesday, Rigobert Song reacted through a message on social networks.

Rigobert Song is no longer the national coach of Cameroon. The 47-year-old technician was dismissed after two years at the head of the Indomitable Lions. At the end of his lease last Tuesday, the former defender was ultimately not extended following his meeting with the president of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto'o, and the Cameroonian Prime Minister.

An eviction taken sportingly by the former Liverpool defender, who still wanted to take stock of his time on the Cameroonian bench. A less than stellar record, with elimination in the round of 16 at CAN 2023 after a sluggish group phase.

In a long post on his social networks, the 47-year-old coach acknowledged his share of responsibility in this mixed performance of his team at this 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations. Which does not reflect ” Notoriety ” and the “prestige of Cameroonian football“. But is delighted with “the good times” spent with his players, and the “experience” accumulated for the rest of his career.

To the supporters who have often criticized the coach for his playing system and his tactical choices, Rigobert Song also has a word for them. “Their wish to see the Indomitable Lions reign in continental football is legitimate, and achieving such an objective remains possible“, he expressed.

Before concluding: “I hope those who will take over from the technical staff will be its editors. May providence allow them to make us appreciate the positive effects of the reconstruction that we have invested in initiating.
