AES accuses Algeria of undermining the fight against terrorism in the Sahel
The Confederation of States of the Sahel (AES) accused Algeria of having committed an “act of aggression”, following the destruction of a drone belonging to the Malian armed forces on the night of March 31 to April 1 in Tinzaouatène, in the region of Kidal (northeast of Mali), according to a press release released on Nigerian television.
The AES qualifies this incident of “act of hostility” on the part of the Algerian authorities, considering it as an attack on the integrity of its confederal space and an obstacle to its efforts in the fight against terrorism.
In their declaration, the heads of state of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, members of the Confederation, firmly condemned the destruction of the drone, believing that it is an act directed against all of the Member States, and a diverted means of supporting terrorist groups.
In response, the three countries have decided to recall their accredited ambassadors to Algeria for consultations.
