Tivaouane: TDS-SA distributes 10,000 decoders to allow populations to follow the 2026 YOG
Télédiffusion du Senegal (TDS-SA) has started the distribution of 10,000 decoders and 5,000 DTT antennas in Tivaouane to allow populations to follow the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Dakar 2026. The general director of TDS-SA,
Dr Aminata Sarr Ndiaye, who led the tour this Thursday, indicated that this endowment was acquired thanks to an investment of 1.5 billion CFA francs made by the State of Senegal to renew the broadcasting infrastructure in Thiès.
This investment enabled the renewal of the Thiès pylon and the acquisition of equipment intended for the populations, she specified. “In our capacity as a national broadcasting operator, TDS-SA has the mission of ensuring the transport and broadcasting of channels, but also of ensuring that populations have access to this service,” declared Dr Ndiaye.
The first phase of distribution started in Tivaouane and will continue in Popenguine, with priority given to religious households, in the name of the Head of State, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The choice of these localities is explained, according to the DG, by the important role of religious centers and by the fact that they were strongly impacted by the removal of the Thiès pylon in September 2025.
“A technical assessment showed that the 200-meter pylon was in an advanced state of disrepair and presented security risks. We replaced it with a temporary 75-meter pylon, affecting the quality of the signal,” she recalled.
Renewal work is underway, she added, specifying that in the meantime, TDS is providing the populations with decoders and antennas to support the transition. Welcomed by religious guides who praised the State’s effort, Dr Ndiaye indicated that the distribution will be supported by 1,400 young people trained in 2021 by TDS-SA in digital professions and the installation of DTT equipment.
She underlined that Senegal has made digital transformation a priority, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Communication, spokesperson for the government, and requested further support from the State in this mission.
