YOG Dakar 2026-Women’s Futsal: beaten by Ukraine (7-2), Senegal eliminated from the groups
For the Lioncelles, the Olympic adventure comes to an abrupt end. Opposed to Ukraine for its last group match, in Iba-Mar-Diop, Wolimata Seye’s Senegal collapsed (7-2) on November 5, 2026 when a victory was essential to aim for the semi-finals.
After its narrow defeat against Venezuela (0-1), the team had lined up Mariama and Marieme Niang from the start and dominated the first exchanges. But on a lost ball by Mariama Faty, Ukraine opened the scoring through Alina Hordiienko, against the run of play. An own goal from the same Hordiienko brought Senegal back to the level, without the IMD Complex igniting.
What followed was painful. Oksana Chevchuk regained the advantage after a missed hand from Awa Baldé, then Marharyta Ruchka (15th) and Valeriia Yukhnovets (18th) made the break. Hordiienko (24th) and Ruchka (25th) further increased the score.
Facing them, Ukrainian goalkeeper Kira Hulenko pushed back everything: 25 saves, a record for a goalkeeper since the start of these YOG. Bousso Diallo reduced the gap (38th), but Ruchka scored his hat-trick just after (40th).
With an 8-1 victory against Fiji and two losses, the Senegalese finished third in their group with 3 points. Senegalese women’s futsal, very recent, was playing only its second international tournament after CAN 2025, where it had not progressed beyond the groups. This campaign remains a formative stage for a young group, facing a high level.
