Floods and loss of human life: PM Ahmadou Alhaminou Lo alongside the victims at Parcelles Assainies
After the damage caused by heavy rains during the night from Sunday to Monday, Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Lo went to Parcelles Assainies in the afternoon to present his condolences to the family of a lady and her 4-year-old boy, who died in the waters.
The Prime Minister, Ahmadou Alhaminou Lo, went to Parcelles Assainies on Monday to present the Nation’s condolences to the family of the lady who died in the waters with her son. “We deplore the loss of human life noted with these recent rains across the country, particularly in Parcelles Assainies,” he said.
Thus, beyond the reassurance and condolences of the State, the Prime Minister stressed that the government is working on a plan to definitively resolve the issue of flooding in Senegal, particularly in Dakar.
“Last Wednesday, in the Council of Ministers, our colleague in charge of Hydraulics presented us with a program to definitively combat flooding. It is several billions planned that we will begin to inject with the next Amending Finance Law. It’s a cost of 921 billion CFA francs,” he said.
However, Ahmadou Alhaminou Lo stressed that there are low points in Dakar and the water no longer passes because of the habitats. Thus, he believes that the only solution remains sanitation.
“But what we can do immediately is make pumps available to the population and the Senegal National Sanitation Office (Onas) will do what is necessary to ensure availability and monitoring. We hope that with the effective implementation of the measures taken this morning during the emergency meeting on the issue that I chaired, there will be improvements by the next winter,” he added.

However, the weather also announced chances of rain today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. So, to avoid such a situation, the head of government announced that they will put in place mechanisms at the most sensitive points so that the services in charge of flooding can intervene as quickly as possible.
“We call on the population to be vigilant and invite them to alert the competent authorities as soon as possible. But the property will be the Onas station. Sanitized Plots, as their name indicates, were supposed to be sanitized, unfortunately this is not the case. The State is certainly a continuity, but we have inherited a country with many problems. However, our mission is to resolve them in order to relieve the Senegalese,” concluded Mr. Lo.
