Bassirou Diomaye Faye carries the voice of ECOWAS in Egypt October 3, 2026
The head of state is in El-Alamein, in the Arab Republic of Egypt, in his capacity as current president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Bassirou Diomaye Faye is due to take part in the mid-annual coordination meeting of the African Union.
The President of the Republic left Dakar yesterday for El-Alamein, in the Arab Republic of Egypt, informs the Presidency of the Republic in a press release published on its Facebook page. Bassirou Diomaye Faye is in Egypt in his capacity as current president of ECOWAS, to take part in the mid-annual coordination meeting of the African Union. “The Head of State meets his African peers around the priorities of development and integration of the continent. This stay is equally dedicated to Senegal’s economic partnerships. The President of the Republic will meet decision-makers and investors, to whom he will present the opportunities that our country offers,” specifies the note from the Presidency.
After Egypt, the Head of State will be in Abuja, Nigeria, for a working visit to the headquarters of the ECOWAS Commission and the installation of the new judges of the Court. An African tour which will last three days (October 2 to 4).
This African tour comes a few days after the Head of State’s participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York from September 22 to 28, 2026.
More than 130 heads of state and government took part in the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. For several days, they discussed this year’s theme: “Building trust, managing transformation: the United Nations at the service of all”.
During his stay in the United States, the Head of State met with several political and economic leaders. He had an audience with António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, Andrew Inglis, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kosmos Energy. Also on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Bassirou Diomaye Faye chaired the signing ceremony of a partnership protocol between the African Refining Company (Sar) and the Turkish company Yamata with a view to the construction of a second refinery in Senegal.
